The origins of this one are more obscure than of some charms, but the Norse believed that acorns displayed on a windowsill would protect a house from lightening. This may seem somewhat trivial to many of us today but probably was a lot more important when your roof was made out of dried straw! However, this tradition continued until, well, maybe today. Some of you may have seen the traditional Venetian blind pulls that have the shape of an acorn. Few people know, including probably the manufacturers of these pulls, that this was a carry forward of the Norse practice of placing acorns in the window.
It is believed that the age and size of Oaks convinced the Norse that the trees had some kind of special immunity against lightening and they hoped that by bringing acorns to their homes would cover them with the Oak's immunity. If you know more about this, please let us know.
So, if you want to protect yourself from lightening or any other evil force, get yourself some acorns.
